Dig Down Deep

Matthew 7:24-27

My Dad and I recently finished a project at my house. We constructed a new fence to replace the one we had built almost twenty years ago. He was the brains behind the project, and I provided some of the brawn. Part of the grunt work was digging holes for the fence posts. There is a notion that you must dig down two feet into the ground to get past the frost line. Anyway, that’s what I attempted to do. Digging in NL is not like anywhere else in the world, there is a reason we call it THE ROCK! It was a difficult job, but we kept going and usually got our twenty-four inches. However, several times we hit rock. When you hit it with a digging bar, it just stops you in your tracks, and you vibrate for a few seconds. On the second to the last hole there was one rock that was not going to be moved, it was solid and it was staying there. We really didn’t worry too much about the two foot rule because we knew that rock was firm.
That brought to mind the truth that we as Christians need to dig down deep to the Solid Rock, and plant our feet on that firm foundation of the truth that our Redeemer is always faithful and true. So many have built the foundations of their lives on sinking sand, but we stand firm on Christ the Solid Rock. The Bible says, ”For their rock is not as our Rock...” Deuteronomy 32:31. Be sure to dig into God’s Word continually and obey God’s Word faithfully. You will be like the wise man Christ described in Matthew 7:24,”Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.”
